It took 77 minutes for police in Uvalde, Texas, to breach classrooms while an 18-year-old gunman opened fire and took the lives of nineteen children and two teachers at Robb Elementary school.

“All of those kids were probably just thinking, ‘Where are my parents? Where is my help?'” says Angel. His daughter, 10-year-old Amerie, was one of the 21 people who died in the mass shooting on May 24, 2022.

“She’ll never know I was trying so hard to get in there,” Angel continues, noting that at one point, police restrained him when he tried to get to his daughter. He says it was Amerie’s best friend Khloie who told him that his daughter had been shot.
