“If you see somebody behaving a certain way, you need to ask yourself not just what they’re doing but why,” Dr. Phil says. If you figure out the why, you can figure out what’s driving the behavior.

On Tuesday’s episode, Dr. Phil speaks with a 15-year-old who has out-of-control rages and has hurt her mom mentally and physically. After learning that the teen was violated as a child and raped as a teen, he determined that those events were probably driving her behavior.

“When things happen to kids, and they don’t have the power to stop it or fight back, they stuff that anger, and they stuff that rage until they get big enough to express it, and then there’s hell to pay,” Dr. Phil says.
