1. Compelled by authority
2. Complying to escape criticism
3. Intellectually aware
4. Mentally and emotionally self-motivated to change

“It’s not until stage four that people really change,” Dr. Phil says. “That's when somebody says, ‘I am so sick of this. I will not put up with this for another second of another minute of another hour of another day will I put up with this for myself.’ That's when people change, and not one second before.”
