unPHILtered: Why Your Mind May Block Things From Consciousness

          January 15, 2019

“There’s something in psychology called perceptual defense,” Dr. Phil says. “And perceptual defense is the mind’s ability to block certain things from consciousness because they’re overwhelming.”

TELL DR. PHIL YOUR STORY: Is Dr. Phil your only hope?

For example, he says that if you were to see your child die a tragic death, your mind may block that so you have no conscious recollection of what you saw.

On Tuesday’s episode, Dr. Phil speaks with Ryan who was with his brother, James Kulstad, the night he died. Ryan tells Dr. Phil that he has told police everything he knows about the night, and Dr. Phil points out how there are things Ryan may not even know that he knows that may be helpful information.

Dr. Phil also explores how James’ death may be related to the disappearance of Micah Holsonbake and Baylee Despot, all which occurred within six weeks of each other in Bakersfield, CA.

Since the taping of this episode, police have information to believe Micah Holsonbake is the victim of a homicide. If you have any information regarding the deaths of James Kulstad or Micah Holsonbake or the disappearance of Baylee Despot, please call Secret Witness at (661) 332-4040.
