Parents Kimber and Tim say that their 16-year-old daughter, Brittney, is out-of-control. They say the teen, who has dropped out of high school, spends her days at the skate park chasing boys, drinking and smoking marijuana. They also say she has become violent and cops have been called.

However, the parents admit that they can’t agree on the best way to discipline their only child.

“I’ve tried everything I could to try to govern her, to try to make her into something she should be as a young woman,” says Tim. “And I don’t feel like I’ve got any help from my wife. I just feel like I’m by myself, but everybody thinks I’m at fault because I haven’t been ‘the man’ and stepped up in this whole thing.”

Kimber says Tim sits in his recliner while she tries to parent Brittney. “I’m the one who does the rules,” she says.

Dr. Phil tells the parents that it’s imperative that they work together to discipline their child.

“There are moments in time when we come to a threshold, when we come to a precipice where all things wrong can be made right,” Dr. Phil says. “There are moments in time where we come to certain choice points where you can make decisions that will be outcome determinative in your life and that of your children. And I’m here to tell you that I intend for this to be one of those moments in your life.”

In the video above, Dr. Phil tells the parents how he believes they are enabling their daughter’s behavior.

On Thursday’s episode, hear from Brittney, who says her mom has “ruined” her life. And, hear why Tim’s parents say they partly blame Kimber for the way Brittney behaves. Check here to see where you can watch.
