In late June 2020, Anita claims she and her children were falsely accused of trespassing at a popular hotel chain. She says after observing her son and daughter swimming in the hotel pool, a white female manager approached her demanding to see proof that Anita was a guest.

“We were the only Black family at the pool,” says Anita, who claims the woman told her, “‘I’m tired of you people coming in here using the pool, and it’s not authorized.’”

Anita says the woman then called police when she refused to say in which room she and her family were staying.

Ben Crump, a civil rights attorney, claims, “Anita’s son thought the police were going to kill his mother because they were pre-judged by an employee who needed better training from the corporation.”
