Dennis, who has been dating Melissa for eight years – even though he’s still married to his wife of 29 years – admits his relationship with Melissa is volatile and filled with physical altercations and infidelity. Melissa says she takes responsibility for their rocky relationship
and says she believes it’s her fault that Dennis is a cheater.
“Battered women, abused women blame themselves for what goes on in relationships,” Dr. Phil says to Dennis. “You allowing her to feel that way and not disabusing her of those thoughts, exploiting those thoughts, creating those thoughts, fertilizing that, letting that grow, is very toxic.”
