Monique says when her daughter, Treasure, who is African-American, was a young child, she started identifying as a white person. She says that now at 16, Treasure makes racist and rude comments about African-American people to their faces, leaving Monique embarrassed – and at a loss for how to change her daughter’s behavior.

On Wednesday’s episode of Dr. Phil, Monique reveals that shortly before Treasure started to identify as Caucasian, the family suffered the loss of Monique’s husband, a man Treasure and her brother believed was their biological father. After his death, Monique revealed to the children that their biological father was, in fact, black.
