Why A Pregnant Woman Who Says She’s Addicted to Heroin Claims She Can’t Quit Using – Yet

          June 7, 2017

At 27 years old, Niki says she’s eight months pregnant, addicted to heroin, and living out of a van with her fiancé, Jessey. She says she began using heroin seven years ago, with someone she was dating at the time; but claims she no longer remembers why she started doing drugs in the first place.

“I mean, at this point now – it’s really because I don’t want to get sick at this point, but if, you know, if I had a reason why I started I probably would have avoided that reason or dealt with it better,” she says.

Niki admits she injects around a gram of heroin a day and is afraid to quit while she’s pregnant. “I don’t know what would happen because I haven’t let it get that far, but I’m not even sure how it would start to affect the baby if I let myself start detoxing.”

In part one of a two-part Dr. Phil airing Wednesday, Niki sees her mother, Sharon, and sister, Sammantha, face-to-face for the first time in over a year. How does her family react to finding out she’s pregnant? And on Thursday’s episode, find out what Niki says she does to pay for her drugs and how she and Jessey say they plan to raise their baby while acknowledging that they are currently homeless.
