At 27 years old, Niki says she’s eight months pregnant, addicted to heroin, and living out of a van with her fiancé, Jessey. She says she began using heroin seven years ago,

“I mean, at this point now – it’s really because I don’t want to get sick at this point, but if, you know, if I had a reason why I started I probably would have avoided that reason or dealt with it better,” she says.
Niki admits she injects around a gram of heroin a day
and is afraid to quit while she’s pregnant. “I don’t know what would happen because I haven’t let it get that far, but I’m not even sure how it would start to affect the baby if I let myself start detoxing.”
