Why Dr. Phil Says Teen’s Parents Should Either Have A Co-Parenting Plan With His Biological Mother – Or Cut Her Out

          April 7, 2017

Amy and Jeremy say they’re desperate to help their 17-year-old son, Nick, who they claim has had escalating aggression and behavioral issues since they adopted him at age 12. Amy says things became so desperate that she even reached out to Nick’s biological mother, Lupita because she’d hoped bringing her back into his life would help set him on the right track. But Lupita doesn’t always see eye-to-eye with Nick’s parents about how he’s being raised, and she says he belongs with her.

TELL DR. PHIL YOUR STORY: Conflict so big it needs a Dr. Phil solution?>

When Nick discusses his impressions of the two women who claim him as their son and explains why he thinks he’s destined for jail, Dr. Phil tells the adults, “You either need to come up with a co-parenting plan where you all set some rules, values that you adhere to – and you do it with 100% emotional integrity – or cut her out,” he says, gesturing toward Lupita. To Lupita he says, “You’ve either got to be a team member – or not.”

On Friday’s Dr. Phil, Mendi Baron, CEO of Evolve Treatment Centers, says his program can help. “This is his chance to take his life back and figure out where he wants to go, what he’s going to do, and how he’s going to get there.” Evolve Treatment Centers provides treatment for adolescents struggling with addiction and mental health issues, as well as support and education for the entire family.

Do Amy, Jeremy and Lupita agree to work together to ensure a good outcome for Nick?
