Jan says her rocky relationship with her grandchild, whom she still refers to as Chance, started when he was in high school. “My husband and I let Chance move in with us the summer before his senior year in high school. Chance was completely out of control,” she says. “My husband was a pharmacist over 50 years. Chance stole painkillers from my husband and then sold them so he could buy drugs. My husband got in trouble because of what Chance did. He was told he either has to quit his job or retire. My grandson ruined my husband’s career and he could have cared less.”
