Karin says that she raised her nephew, Cole, and his brothers while they were growing up and that she tried to protect them from their mother, Debra, whom she calls an “absentee” mother.

“She’s not very reliable. She breaks promises every chance that she gets,” Karin claims, referring to Debra. “Debra was always making promises that she was going to come see Cole. Ninety-five percent of the time, she never showed up. It always broke his heart. Since Cole was 2 until he was 18, he has seen Debra about 10 times.”

Karin continues, “By the time Cole was 15, Debra was filling his head with lies saying that I stole her children from her, that we wouldn’t let her see them -- which wasn’t true -- and it would just create problems that I would, in the end, have to clean up.”

Debra says there were “unfortunate circumstances” that prevented her from seeing her children. She also claims Karin and her family made it difficult for her to maintain contact with her children.

“My biggest fear is that Cole is going to be hurt by his mom again,” says Karin, of the now young man.
