PLAYING Wife Says Husband’s Video Game Habit Is Destroying Her Marriage
Paul and Rachel have been married for three-and-a-half years, but Rachel says their marriage may now be in jeopardy due to what she claims is Paul’s video game “addiction.”
Rachel claims her husband plays video games 12-14 hours a day and ignores his family.
“He plays his video games from the time he wakes up in the morning [until] the time he goes to bed at night,” Rachel says on Tuesday’s Dr. Phil. “He plays them past 3 a.m. He would rather play the video games than be with me sexually.”
Paul admits he has a “moderate problem” with video games, but says he only plays around six hours a day, and he insists that the reason he plays video games is to help him cope with the pain from a serious blood disease.
“I don’t ignore the kids, or you,” Paul tells his wife. “I’ve been sick, Rachel. This is about more than just video games.”
Rachel says Paul – who has moved out and is now living with his parents – missed their 14-year-old daughter’s birthday party so he could stay in his room playing video games.
Can Dr. Phil help this couple work through their issues and fix their relationship – or could they be headed for a divorce?
