Woman Claims Her Mom Uses History With Drug Addiction As An Excuse For Not Knowing How To Parent

          January 26, 2018

Aja says her mother, Janet, a self-described recovering drug addict who currently lives with Aja and her husband, Andy, often complains when she’s asked to help care for their children.

TELL DR. PHIL YOUR STORY: Huge family drama?

“You act like ‘poor, poor Aja,’ when in actuality, I do babysit your children,” says the 57-year-old. “I don’t know how you expect me to be this—just because I’m sober—I’m going to be some stellar grandmother when I didn’t even know how to be a mother.”

Janet admits she wasn’t a good parent to Aja or her sister Ashley. She claims it’s because she stopped maturing when she started using drugs as a teenager.

Aja claims her mother uses her history of drug addiction as an excuse for not knowing how to be mother or grandmother. How does Janet respond when Aja tells her it’s time for her to “figure it out”?
