Shannon claims her husband, Alex, has become obsessed with his quest for enlightenment. From following and obeying the teachings of controversial gurus and clairvoyants to believing in the existence of aliens, she claims his pursuit of happiness is destroying their family.

“Alex spends so much time searching for enlightenment that the children and I are ignored and neglected,” Shannon claims. “He considers me to be a miserable person. He’s constantly reminding me that I just love to focus on the negative and continue to be miserable. It’s very hurtful.”
She also claims her husband of 13 years has spent over $200,000 and lost their successful business.

Alex claims he has not only become enlightened, but has come face to face with God himself, and has unlocked the answers to all of life’s greatest questions and mysteries. He says his wife is a negative person who would rather be a victim and live in misery.
“I feel like this enlightenment philosophy has stolen my husband,” Shannon says, turning to Dr. Phil for help. “If Alex is truly enlightened and he’s reached ultimate enlightenment, then he should understand that his family is nothing but positive love right there for him.”
