Jodie says she will never forget the events of June 15, 1984. She says after she and her 15-year-old sister, Reesa, hung out with some of Reesa’s friends, Reesa went next door to their grandparents' house. Jodie says later that day, she heard her grandfather scream and saw him running out of the house.

“I knew something was wrong, something had happened,” says Jodie, who was 13 at the time. “I ran out and ran next door, and he wouldn’t let me past him. He just kept yelling, ‘Call an ambulance.’”

Jodie says when she finally walked into her grandparents’ house, she saw blood on the floor and her sister covered in a blanket.
