Woman Says While Serving 60 Years In Prison, She Almost Took Her Life – And What Happened To Stop Her
Kiera Newsome was convicted of 60 years to life in prison for murder during a drive-by shooting. But Kiera claims she was in class all day when the murder occurred – and that what the witnesses claimed about the shooter did not match her description.
Kiera spent almost 20 years behind bars and says it was almost like a death sentence.
Kiera says for the first few years, she got into multiple fights a day and was threatened, until she was moved into another yard.
Kiera says she had a moment where she broke down and was going to take her own life. Hear what happened – and what stopped her in her tracks – in the video above.
On Friday’s episode of Dr. Phil, "19 Years Lost: I Am Innocent," Dr. Phil examines Kiera’s case and speaks with her teacher, who was her alibi, and her lawyers who claim Kiera’s case is “the starkest miscarriage of justice” they have ever seen. Plus, did a key witness change his story? Check local listings to see where you can watch.
