Shirley and her sons, Jan and Scott, say that her daughter, Marie’s, behavior is dangerous. They say the 19-year-old drinks, has been arrested and spent time in jail, and meets men on the internet and dates them for money. Behaviors, they say, that go against her strict Catholic upbringing.

Marie says that when her mom kicked her out of the house for voting for Hillary Clinton, she was glad to finally be free of the strict rules -- the rules she says pushed her to become a rebel.

Jan says he blames himself for his sister’s rebellion because he molested her as a child – an act he has apologized for, and for which Marie has forgiven him and says has not caused her behavior.

After telling Dr. Phil that her plan for the future is to go to college and work, Marie’s family responds.

“You’re a prostitute,” her mom says to her.

“You have so much potential, but you’re a waste of a life right now,” her brother Scott says.

Dr. Phil takes the family to task. “You guys talk out of both sides of your mouth. You sit there and you say you realize that the trauma has been visited upon her at this point, and then in the same breath, you criticize her for behaving in an immature fashion, when you well know that her emotional and social development is arrested at the point that she becomes a victim of this molestation,” he says. “You haven’t said one positive thing about her since we started talking to you.”
