Gender Affirming Care for Minors

Many parents and others object to medical doctors providing what the transgender community and a portion of the medical community refer to as 'gender-affirming care,' for fear that it is nothing more than surgical mutilation or hormonal destruction of natural development. Did you know there are some states that allow children under the age of 18 to receive these kinds of procedures without parental consent?

Advice for Parents

Gender-affirming Care

"Many parents and others object to medical doctors providing what the transgender community and a portion of the medical community refer to as 'gender-affirming care,' for fear that it is nothing more than surgical mutilation or hormonal destruction of natural development."

Promoting Critical Thinking

"Having reviewed the literature concerning the medical transition of prepubescent children, I am nothing short of shocked that the leadership of these professional organizations has endorsed these procedures."

Recognizing the Role of Social Influences

"One data point that I found striking was in a study out of the United Kingdom, where the Gender Identity Development Service found a 4,400 percent increase in the number of girls who wanted to change their sex."

Encouraging Empathy and Respect

"The 'live and let live' mass of Americans, the 'we' alluded to above, I believe, has been pushed too far." This quote reflects the need for balance and mutual respect in discussions on sensitive topics.

Addressing Conflicts Between Rights and Beliefs

Highlight the importance of finding a middle ground where different rights and beliefs do not infringe upon each other: "I’m focusing on this issue because it is one of many where one group’s beliefs and agenda are pushing Americans beyond what they are comfortable with accepting or endorsing."
